In the wake of the Global economic crisis, a lot has unfolded while others have folded, including companies and mega-multi nationals. This is not another article about the economic meltdown that has ravaged the economy of nations but about how we can make sense of all of this – that is if we can, in the first place.
Even before the meltdown and then the recovery (which many say is still fragile), people have been seeking ways to make their lives better by earning more. It still remains a mystery to millions of people how the rich get richer i.e keep making more money and the poor, well, never seem to get ahead apart from may be occasionally winning the lottery or being left a fat cheque by a diseased relative.
So how do we make a sense of all of this? The well-to-does might not bother reading this since they are already doing alright, right? But, seriously, for the rest of us who are still trying to force the both ends to meet, do we have a way out? Is there any silver lining anywhere? Do we throw our hands up in surrender and live from hand to mouth as we have always done? Do we keep squandering the little we’ve got in making unwise purchases or do we save a fraction? Even when we save a fraction, how safe is that fraction from financial institution collapse, or the crippling inflation? Someone said, ‘why save the dollar when everyone else is selling’? In other words why throw away money when you can use it to make more money.
Because we are suffering from what I call (I’m not sure I originated this phrase but who cares:)!) information overload – too many people blabbing about the same subject at the same time, our ears are full of ideas, thoughts that we know not what to do with them.
Here’s my take on all of this financial state: work, earn, find ways to make more money with some of your money, then make more money. Try frugality when you are not particularly green, burrow to invest not to squander and read, read, read. Improving your financial knowledge is always a safe bet when you consider what you will loose by not knowing.
While, I am still working to get a firm grasp of this elusive object called more money, I acknowledge the fact that there are different stages one can be at any particular time. But our goal is to graduate to the next level as fast as possible. Let the motivating factor be how much you can do with having a lot of cash at your disposal. It’s like being the president of your own little country! you could do so much good with it.
